Hey, everybody!! Here I am. This time with a song fic… this song got stuck in my head

Ok… disclaimers: not mine and not mine is the song. Must give credit where credit is due… you know copy write laws and all… the GW characters all belong to some good people in Japan who allow us fan fiction writers to express our love of the anime and the eagles (fantastic group) own the song. I’m not making profit on this or using it for any other intent but to entertain my fans> And you know who you areJ

This is going to be non-yaoi and non- Yuri so if that is you cup a tea, just keep on moving right along. It will be normal hetro couples so if you don’t like Duo with Hilde, I suggest you just keep on moving. Ok with that said here we go. And I may or may not use the whole song…

Heartache Tonight

By the eagles (song)

Story by

Mama-sama

Somebody’s gonna hurt someone

Before the night is through

Somebody’s gonna come undone

There’s nothing we can do

Everybody wants to touch somebody

If it takes all night

Everybody wants to take a little chance

Make it come out right.

There’s gonna be a heartache tonight

Heartache tonight I know

There’s gonna be a heartache tonight, I know

Lord, I know.

Duo shuffled his feet impatiently. “ Come on, Hilde, what’s taking so long? We should have been there already.”

“I’m hurrying as fast as I can.”

He shuffled his feet once more as he leaned on her bedroom door jam. “If I knew it was going to take this long I would have gone on alone.”

There was silence for a few moments, then came Hilde’s reply. Her words were harsh. “Well, then go ahead and go. I’ll catch up with you later.” She muttered softly to her self. “Sorry for the inconvenience.”

“What?” He asked as he stood out the door.
“Nothing!” She called back. “Ill catch up later!” Then she said as an afterthought. “Maybe.”

“Ok! I’ll see you there.”
She waited till she heard the door slam and flopped down on the bed. She sighed and covered her eyes with her arm. What was the deal with him? He was always so impatient with her. She pulled her arm away from her eyes and blinked back the tears that had started to form. No, it wasn’t just her. It was everyone. He was short with his co- workers too. She sighed, this wasn’t like Duo, and he wasn’t this way. Something was bothering him and well, unless he told her what it was she couldn’t help at all. She pulled herself off the bed and finished slipping on her jeans and t-shirt. She glanced at herself in the mirror. What she saw a pretty blue-eyed girl with blue-black hair. She was short and had a slender but sexy figure. She placed her hand over the image. Maybe it was just that he was tired of her. Maybe she didn’t have enough of the right attributes. Maybe he needed to get laid. They had been dating for a while but he never made any move toward her. She wondered sometimes why. Maybe tonight she would find out. She turned and looked at her reflection once more, running her hands down her sides. Yep, tonight was going to be it one way or another. Heartache or happiness, one way or the other for them.

Duo slipped into the party unnoticed. He had a knack for stealth and he was good at it. It helped in times when he didn’t want a group of girls converging on him. Hilde didn’t like it much but she tolerated the girls. Hilde. He sighed. He shouldn’t have been so harsh on her. It wasn’t her fault he was feeling frustrated and inadequate. He shook his head, allowing his long chestnut colored braid to move gently across his back. His violet eyes took in the scene before him. Hilde told him the girls chased him because he had boyish good looks. He had laughed at her for that, but he suspected it to be true. He slipped up to the bar and sat down facing the bottles of liquor, not wanting to look out onto the dance floor. He looked down the bar and caught the bartender’s eye. He made his way toward the young man.

“So, Duo, what’s up?” He asked, smiling at him.

Duo shook his head. “Nothing, could I have a beer?”

“Sure,” He replied and went to get Duo a bottle of beer. He twisted the cap and set it in front of him. “So where’s the better half?”

“I sort of left her at home.”

“Oh?”
“Yeah, I made a mistake.”
The bartender snorted. “Well, isn’t that a first. The great Duo Maxwell admitted he made a mistake.”

“Aw, shut up.” Duo grumbled.

“So you two have a fight?”
Duo shrugged, “I… yeah, I guess, sort of.”

“I see. I hope you plan to make up to her.”
Duo nodded.
“Is she coming here later?”
Duo shrugged, “I don’t know, I hope………”
Suddenly he was interrupted by a loud squeal as several of his admirers appeared next to him. He closed his eyes as they all talked to him at once. The bartender made a hasty retreat to the other end of the bar, leaving Duo to deal with the girls. He smiled and listened to them as they chattered away. After a little bit they drifted away, realizing he wasn’t listening to them. He had turned toward the dance floor to watch the people. The place was hopping. There so much going on it was almost like a soap opera. A couple in the far corner was having a loud and angry argument, while another couple were holding hands and gazing at each other. People were milling around and it seemed chaotic to him. He glanced at his watch. Time seemed to be at a stand still. He wanted to go home but he couldn’t. It was he was trapped in the twilight zone and this night was going to last forever.

Suddenly someone touched his arm and turned to look at the person. A pretty redhead looked at him with big green eyes.

“Hi, there.” She said, smiling. “Are you alone tonight? Would like some company?”
He frowned at her, and then glanced away. “No.” He said.

She moved closer to him, “Are you sure? I could make it worth your while.”

“No.” He repeated.
“God, Duo! Why are you being such an ass?”
“Go away, Lindsey, I don’t want to play games with you. I never want to play games with you.”
“Oh, I see you and your little….”
He turned to her, glaring. “Don’t you even think of saying what I think you’re going to say. I‘m in love with Hilde, so don’t even go there.”
Her mouth opened to make a smart reply but he had gotten up and moved away. She watched him as he moved toward the door. She blinked to keep tears away as she saw who he was going to. It was Hilde, standing in the doorway. Lindsey watched as Hilde’s face lit up when she saw Duo approaching her. Lindsey gulped back the lump in her throat as she watched Duo embrace her. She watched as Duo pulled the raven-haired girl to the dance floor and she blinked again as the DJ played a song she hated. It was Duo and Hilde’s song. She closed her eyes and turned away, unable or unwilling to watch them anymore. It was hopeless, and her heart was breaking.

Some people like to stay out late

Some folks can’t hold out that long

But nobody wants to go home now

There’s too much going’ on

This night’s gonna last forever

Last all, last all summer long

Sometime before the sun comes up

The radio is gonna play that song

There’s gonna be a heartache tonight

Heartache, I know

There’s gonna be a heartache tonight

Heartache I know

Lord I know.

Duo moved away from Lindsey with record speed. He had never done anything to the redhead to make her think he felt anything for her. He had just been polite to her and she latched on to him. Maybe she would leave him alone, now. He shook his head as he moved through the crowd to the doorway. He caught Hilde’s eye and saw her smile at him.

He quickly grabbed her and pulled her toward the dance floor.

“Hey, Babe.”

“Hi, Duo.”

Once they got out to the floor and started to dance, Hilde looked around. “Wow, the place is busy tonight.”
“Yeah, there’s gonna be trouble before the night is over. I can feel it in the air.”

“Yeah, I feel it too.”
“Um, Hilde, I’m sorry for snapping at you earlier.”
“It’s ok, Duo. I know something is bothering you. So why don’t you tell me?”

“I don’t know what it is. I feel…….” He stated, as he moved her around the dance floor. “You know the DJ is playing our song.”
She smiled up at him. “I know.”

They danced until the song ended and Duo began to lead her off the dance floor. “This party could last all night. What do you say, let’s blow this joint and go home?”

She smiled. “Ok, but lets walk home. It’s a beautiful night.”

He nodded as he took her toward the door. In the corner a woman threw a drink in a man’s face and stormed past them. In another part of the bar a man stood and turned away from a crying woman and walked to the bar.

“See,” Duo said, as they continued toward the door, “Something in the air.”
Hilde nodded. The stepped out into the night and looked up. The moon was shining bright. Hilde clasped Duo’s hand and said softly, “ Come on, lets go home and get it right.”

There’s gonna be a heartache tonight,

The moon’s shinin’ bright

So turn out the light and we’ll get it right

There’s gonna be a heartache tonight, a

Heartache tonight, I know

Heartache baby,

Somebody’s gonna hurt someone, (somebody)

Before the night is through,

Somebody’s gonna come undone,

There’s nothing we can do

(Everybody) everybody wants to touch somebody

If it takes all night

Everybody wants to take a little chance

To make it come out right

Hilde pulled Duo into house and to her bedroom.
“We are going to get it right, this time, Duo.”

He stood with a shocked look on his face as she pushed him on the bed and reached over to hit the light.

“Yep, it’s gonna be right this time. No more heartaches for us.”

“Hilde? What are you…mmmph?”

There’ s gonna be a heartache tonight

Heartache tonight, I know

There’s gonna be a heartache tonight

Heartache tonight, I know

Let’s go

We can beat around the bushes

We can get down to the bone

We can leave it in the parkin’ lot,

But either way, there’ gonna be a

Heartache tonight, heartache tonight I know

There’ll be heartache tonight

There’ll be heartache tonight

Heartache tonight I know.

As the moon moved through the sky the night passed and the day dawned, new and clear and all that was the night before was past. Two lovers lay in each other’s arms, content in how things had worked out for them.

The end….

Ok. I know this probably didn’t turn out very well, but man; this song has been in my head for a week and couldn’t get it out. This was the only way to get rid of it. Now, I’m off to write a little more to outlaw and the search….

And thanks for reading J
